Being new to the springs and not knowing much about the area, what lakes freeze up first?

Thinking Taryall, then Antero maybe just off of depths and elevations. Anyone with some local knowledge want to help a transplant out? All my ice fishing experience is in the eastern Idaho area.

Thanks,

TH

Neither are frozen yet but soon enough they will be! Eleven Mile will freeze up after Antero and Tarryall.

Did oldstage ever reopen? Either way I can check Skagway for y'all tomorrow afternoon. Got to try my new calipers on my car out anyway. Hopefully antero has some safe ice sat morning. The spot I have been looking forward too for months has been ruined by feet of snow and winds.

Usually the progression of ice around the Colorado Springs area goes as followed about the week of Thanksgiving  Tarryall freezes over, about a week after that we see ice on Antero , followed up a week or so with Elevenmile getting its cap or at least the coves seeing safer ice.

Tarryall   This lake is popular year round and is known for numbers of fish. Rainbows  and Cutbows make up the majority of
the catch with a few Browns thrown in . The fish average 10 too 14 inches with some hold overs in the 15 too 18
inch range . Northern Pike also swim in the body of water and can be iced, some Northerns in the 10 lb and bigger
              are always possible.

Antero    This lake is a very popular ice fishing destination. The lake holds Rainbow , Cutbows , Snake River Cuts, Browns,
Brook Trout , Splake and Kokanne. The average fish here is in the 14 too 18 inch range with a goos number of
fish reaching 20 too 24 inches and a great chance of catching that 10 lb plus fish

Elevenmile  This lake is a trophy destination for many anglers looking for that truely large fish . Rainbows ,Cutbows ,
Snake River Cuts, Browns, Kokanne , and Northern pike make up the catch here. The trout average 14 too 20
inches with numbers of fish over the 20 inch mark. 25 too 30 inch trout are in this lake with many every year
falling to a jig or spoon. Fishing for Northen pike here is also very popular with pike in the 20lb class and bigger
Kokanne fishing can be good at times and are usually found in the deeper water fishing spoons and tubes.
They will average  between 12 and 18 inches. In past years Kokanne to 20 inches have been caught.

Skagway  Is a smaller lake with better views of the area . This is another lake that can be known for numbers with most
trout in the 8 too 14 inch range. A few nice Pike haunt this lake and this year in open water we have seen fish
               Pushing 20 lbs landed.

Hope this help people new to the area with some information about the ice opportunities in the Pikes Peak region.
