Getting a bit of an auger that is stuck and has risen above its normal seating.

Like the topic states. Any suggestions for getting a bit off an auger that just won't budge?
The pin fell out (jiffy EZ Loose your bit connector) and it rose up the shaft and now will not come off.
I have tried heating the bit, vicing the bit and pulling the head slightly (not jerking). Hammering the bit (though not that hard at all) and having it sit indoors for two days liberally soaking it in WD40.
I'm at a loss at other than drilling another hole through the bit and then pulling it off by using this hole to pull from.
Throwing this out there for any suggestions I may not have tried or been given.
Good luck all
Good fishin!

Are you talking about the center point? If so I had problems getting mine out of my Eskimo to sharpen it. I ended up running a piece of conduit through the shaft and lightly tapping it out. Came out pretty easily that way.

Nothing better than DR PEPPER on shaved ice.

No I think he means the pin came out while drilling and basically swedged the output of the transmission into the connector sleeve on the auger

I was not impressed with the connection on my new jiffy pro 4 when I first saw it. You might try some dry ice, drilling and pulling might help but it might come apart or damage internal parts as well. What does jiffy recommend. This makes me want to remove my "Loose your pin" connection and go back to a old fashioned bolt and lock nut! Is there any way to get a wedge between the bit and motor shaft and force it apart that way?

It is millimetres up into the housing at the base of the power head.
Can't get anything between it. Can't budge it.
I'm ready to cut the bit, drill a hole on the part remaining on the shaft and making an effort that way.
Good fishin.

can you drill a hole in the shaft, run a rod thru the hole an alternately tap on each side of the rod?

After a good soak with some good penetrating oil, something other than WD-40, you might go drill some ice and see if it will dis-lodge itself. Has it gone high enuf to ruin the output seal? Even with careful heating you risk ruining that seal, but it may have to happen to get it apart. If you can lock the engine/gearbox from turning, you might be able to clamp the auger and manually twist the engine using the handles and get it started to move apart, go easy so as not to break something that is big $$$ to fix, thus making a small problem a large problem. Another thot...if the center of the auger is hollow full length, then it should be easy to slide a long shaft up in there and knock it loose. I have an ancient eskamo that is hollow with a removable point
Good luck...Scott

It's now just barely up inside the case and I'm not able to get anything like a pickle fork to get in between the case and the bit.
I don't really want to try anything else now. It's third trip and maybe 50 holes. Sure if not be assisted by jiffy as I "should use check the nut" ect. I would hope in the future they make something to stop the bit from going into the casing. For the next guy kinda a thing.
I don't know what taking the base nuts apart would grant me. I don't know what this thing looks like inside or if I want to try that method of fix.
I'm calling them and a local shop in the morning instead of heading out on the ice. Grrrr!
Looks like I'm hanging up the sonar for another year.
Good fishin'!

Again, because without the pin it rose into the case under the auger head. Anymore use it will over time just keep going up there....get it off and put on properly and avoid the problems of it going up further and ruining the power head or at least the seal and what I would think are gears in the base of the power head.

Why don't u remove the bottom point/plate of the auger and use a long rod through the flighting, from the bottom up, and try tap the motor off of the flighting. On my jiffy the whole bottom plate/center pt is held on with a bolt.

If you take a dent puller/slap hammer and make something to hook onto the auger and put the motor in a vice ( clamp the handle only) and try getting it off that way may work,or if its possible hang the auger by the handles this way you know its not binding if you are trying to get it off with the auger on its side that may very well be the problem, and if you haven't done it already take the blades off

Good suggestions. Calling jiffy in the morning tomorrow and then if they won't help me out:
After that I'll be trying a couple suggestions here and I'll update progress.
Sure hope something works.

If I understand you correctly, you will need a small wafer wheel on a die grinder. mark the auger bit with 2 lines exactly 180 degree's apart, running the length of the shaft coming out of the power head. make two cuts approx. 2" long, only deep enough to cut thru the auger bit and not the power head shaft. take a small chiscel and slightly spread the cut lines open. then tap the auger bit off the power head shaft. If you make the cut lines opposite the pin hole , you can then re-weld the cut lines and properly fit it back to the original shaft. Take your time and it will come off with out damage that cannot be fixed. the use of heat will damage the seals inside the power head.

Thanks for the detail. Appreciated.
Yes I got close to wanting to heat the bit and looked at the plastic casing and thought of the seals and didn't go that far.
