Hey guys, i'n new to the site and new to ice fishing in general. Only been in Alaska about 2 years but I mainly fly fish. I have made about 3 trips so far this year, all to a lake right by my house out in Wasilla by Pitman. Haven't had any luck yet but I think I might try my luck tomorrow at Memory Lake for some Pike. We have a good amount of ice out here right now, on the lake I fished a couple days ago there was 8+ inches.
Well, I look forward to chattin with ya guys and I will check back often!

Posten and Globalfisher Welcome!
Couldn't give any reports for the MatSu, since we rarely get down south. IcyMike may be able to help you out...... Give a report if your successful! Would be great if someone from the south posted some pics! Welcome!
Beerthirty, Most of the Dollies caught in the tributarys are rather skinny and 4-6 lbs. Guess it depends on the area? Kodiak Commander has quite a few down on the island, and the boys in the Anchorage area could tell you more about the size of thier fish. I used to fish the Katmai area where the fish where a little larger, (from 4-9 lbs.) and then there's arctic char, which are either the same fish or a close relitive. Depends on who you talk to concerning the genitic makeup of the fish itself. Char in Interior AK get into the mid 20 lb. range. Mighty Big!

Some buddies of mine went out to Mirror Lake yesterday and just caught a bunch of 12-15in. rainbows, said it was fun though. Wondering what to use on big lake and if it is safe to drive on yet, also when does skilac usually freeze up enough for safe ice fishing. Thanx

sometimes skilac doesn't even freeze over... but it all depends on how cold its been. I'ts been pretty cold lately though. I've fished it as early december.

Hey everyone,
Hit my favorite lake in the valley last Saturday, about 7-8" of good ice. This week's weather might mess that up though. Picked up one nice char, about 20", lost another one about the same size.
Some people were fishing in about 8' of water near the shoreline, they were nailing some nice rainbows. Things are looking good overall, should be another fun winter.
