6 years ago I made up my name, because it was appropriate. I rarely caught my target species, and the old timers would just shake their heads and say things like "haven't seen one of them caught in that area in 20 years". This tendency was still going strong in late 2011 when I landed a decent tuna solo in late October on a cod jig while pounding pollock. But something is wrong this ice season. I keep getting my target fish, how odd. I even got filmed today by F&G. They are doing crappie assessment in some ponds. I was there, and I had set up lines for 3 species. I jigged the gills and crappie for them, and then while I was telling them that one flag was set for bass moving into shoal water, the flag pops and it's a Larry. I point out the inner flag is for large bass and slime darts. They head up river, and 20 min later the shallow flag gives up a slimer. I go go to leave cutting the time home tointercept the school bus down to minutes and a prayer for no traffic at the lights. But, I can't resist the temptation to dead stick the three remainig flags just one more time by lifting and dropping them, and sure enough after doing this to the three, I get a crappie attached to the second flag on my return circuit. He got a ride home still attached to the trap. A sad day for ODD fishing. But, it was a good day for a well executed one hour and fourty min fishing trip. ;DL
