We went down there in early March a few years back figuring we could ice fish it. Most of the lake was open. There were some guys fly fishing it for trout and I think there are some big bass down there too. Not sure if it ever freezes good though. Maybe it was just an unlucky attempt by us.

It has big trout and bigger bass. It is awesome in the summer for fly fishing.  I think there is a warm spring that keeps it open year round.  Or at least sketchy ice.

The guys I work with turned me onto it a few years ago. They do their dive rescue training there because the water is so clear. I fly fished it once in April 2011 and again last year in August when Angostura was really slow. Big trout, decent bass. I have never heard anyone ice fishing it because of the same things everyone else mentioned. I believe the same it true for Cottonwood just west of town as well.

Yep the whole northern half was open and a couple dozen ducks were hanging around.  Looked like someone ventured out on the south side a punched a few holes.
