Lac La Croix Report Feb 16-17
« on: Feb 18, 2013, 09:08 PM »
I had a great time hitting Lac La Croix for my first time. We headed into Canada with our remote border crossing permits starting from Crane Lake. The first morning was pushing -30 and the fog was THICK for the 22 mile ride in. After parking the sleds on the Candian border, we walked into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area with hand augers to the first spot and caught 7 lake trout and 2 pike. The ride out was easy on the way out with minimal slush and good visiblity along with a quick stop at US customs on snowmbile. Day 2 we headed back in and fished a different spot. This resulted in an eel pout, a pike and a decent walleye. The warmer temps gave us slush issues on the way out since the trails were blown over and almost impossible to see. We got on the road home before the storm came through. With the deep snow, it will get really slushy going forward. The PK flutterfish in 1/2 ouce glo dot took a few of the fish, but most came from the holes closest to the active jigging on a dead cisco.
