just got mucks...
« on: Oct 29, 2013, 09:24 PM »
i just bought a pair of muck woody sports, and am second guessing myself. I was debating on getting these boots or the woody max boots, the ones i got are rated at -20 to 70 degrees and the woody max's are rated at -40 to to 60. i wanted a pair for hunting and ice fishing. the reason i got the sports were cause i didnt want my feet to sweat, then get cold cause i know with the max's they would have sweat then got cold. does anyone have the wetlands or the woody sports and use them for ice fishing, if so are you happy with them or do you wish you had gotten the warmer boot like a arctic pro or woody max. or i will keep these boots and get the best warmest sock i can. what are your suggestions on socks

My personal opinion is to not wear the same boots for ice fishing and hunting. I made that mistake, and my boots wore out in a fraction of the time they should have lasted. I now wear Muck Arctic Pros for ice fishing and a pair of Irish Setter Rutmasters (worn to crap from wearing hunting) for hunting. I patched the Rutmasters with Shoe Goo and covered that with camo Gorilla tape.

A good merino wool sock is all you need. Go with the Arctic pro - hands down it's the most comfortable boot I've owned. No issues with cold either.
Love my Mucks.

Just got a pair of the muck woody elites.  I wanted the colder rating for ice fishing (-40), but also wanted the anti microbial liner so they don't stink if my feet do sweat in them.  Plus, I found them for $95 shipped.  I guess they are designed to not over heat your foot and cause a ton of sweat, but we will see this winter.  I have worn them a couple times just doing chores and they are very warm and comfortable.  As someone else suggested, a decent wool sock should be all you need. Wool wicks sweat pretty good.  The boots are warm, no need to wear a crazy thick sock, just one with good moisture control.  One other suggestion is I never drive with my boots on.  If it's any longer than 20 min in the car, I always change my socks and boots once I get to the lake, that wil help a lot with moisture as well.  I know I tend to sweat in the car if I wear my boots, then an hour into fishing is when you feel it.
