Bullheads
« on: Feb 26, 2013, 11:05 AM »
So I have always had luck jigging with a bullhead as bait attached to my gigs for lakers. I was fishing the other day and had quite a few hit the bullhead tail behind the hook so i couldn't hook them. I was wondering if there was some way that i could rig up a bullhead without using a tube gig for the hook? I was thinking of doing something similar to how we rig them for trolling in the summer but i don't know how to make it sink. I have some larger bullheads that are about three inches in length so i was also thinking of doing a two hook rig one at the tail and one under the mouth to optimize my hooking ability. Any thoughts on how to rig this up would be very helpful. I have a needle i use to thread the line through them for trolling I have just never tried to get two hooks and a weight all on one so I need some help. Thanks.

tie a small stinger hook with a size 10 treble hook and hook in the back of the bull head.

what kind of knot should I use? Should I tie the stinger hook to the treble then the treble up to the reel?

Go to your local tackle store and get a package or two of these.
They just slip over the jigs hook. The rubber/plastic over the loop keeps them from falling off.

I tie my own and use a loop knot around the shank of the hook. You can also tie to the eye on the jig but I think it gets in the way.
