I saw something today...it kind of bumbed me out.
« on: Feb 15, 2013, 10:03 PM »
I was driving home today from Scranton and i saw my first sure sign that the end of the ice season is over.  I saw two different turkey vultures.  I have noticed over the years that these ugly birds arrival has always been within a couple of weeks of final ice.  so get out there while you can.

I always see them. Especially a couple weeks ago when 3 of them were gnawing on a rotten road killed deer.

Today I saw a skunk getting chased by a ground hog across the ice. The skunk ran out into traffic and got hit by a car. Than came the turkey vultures to make a quick meal of the skunk :-)

Just kidding... 6 deg this morning when I set foot on 11" of ice. I'll be the optimist here and say, I think we'll be good for several more weeks....

late this weekend into next week looks to ge four days with daytime temps in the 40's and close to 50 and nights that are close to staying above freezing.  ice quick when that happens.

Holding out hope for next weekend. West pa showing below freezing highs, and low teens at night. Gotta get out once more this season. Even if its only for one more lousy perch!

Well let's just use Phil's tail to make some jigs so we can use them on the ice ;D  I am definitely not ready to quit being on the ice yet.  Just bought a new StrikeMaster gas auger last week and want to use it a few more times.  Our local lake still has between 4 to 8 inches of good ice, pending where you are at.  The forecast today on the 6pm news did show a slight warm up, but the nights are gonna be below freezing.  I think we have a good 2 more weeks of ice around here ;)

I walked about 3/4 mile south of Ironwood

I should be back out there Tuesday looking for whatever took my trout head for a ride Friday

Was on the ice this morning and heard the geese honking above. On the way home in the afternoon I saw a groundhog standing up looking around. I think spring is just around the corner.

good luck with finding the one that took your trout for a ride.   Off of shumans and martins the ice it not as thick as what your pic was.  but then again there were guys fishing ironwood and sterling while the other end was open .  Makes sence though.  any pressure ridges down near ironwood?  there a few up at the other end.

none that I saw...I usually come across them more often heading the other way out towards Kipp Island though
