Western Mass trip.
« on: Jan 28, 2013, 08:49 AM »
I'm planning on spending a few days hitting the ice in the western part of the state. I want to target trout, crappie, perch, and if possible a salmon would be nice (still haven't caught one). Any suggestions on an area or body of water where I might be able to find all three of them? Also, any inexpensive places to stay would also help. The furthest west I've been so far is Comet, but I'd like to hit the Berkshires if it would work. ???

Laurel lake would probably be your best bet to target all species.  its only a few miles off the mass pike.

Thanks guys. How's the fishing there? Any other decent holes in the area? I'm not really picky about the lodging as long as it's clean, and arestaurant with a bar nearby(walking distance if possible would be nice). I know I'm hoping for a lot, but I haven"t been on a trip solo for years and I'd like to make the most of it. :icefish:

There is a sports bar called the locker room on main st. in Lee. half mile from the lake.  there is also lodging rite at the lake. I forgot the name but i believe they also have a bar.   Ecspect a lot of slush on the ice.

;DThanks for the info. Right across from the lake sounds pretty good. I'm going the beginning of next week so hopefully the slush will be gone.

Slush won't be too much of a problem. It is going to drop down cold and freeze starting thursday night. Don't forget to hit Moe's in Lee. Screw the Locker Room...Moe's is the place!

Moes is the place to go for great beer however they do not serve food. Definitely hit Moes if you like good beer. Plus the gentlemen who runs it is a  very nice guy. I stop there every time for one or two on my way to my grandfathers in Pittsfield. Onota lake also has all those species (not sure about salmon but definitely trout) and theres possibility for a trophy pike as well

Goose Pond in Lee/Tyringham; has trout, maybe a few broodstock salmon left, small & largemouth bass, pickeral, perch, you name it! My 4 Sons Bait Shop is 2 miles away on Rt. 20, center of Lee is 4 miles away with plenty of accomodations!

Go to Goose. Usually good for just about everything. I haven't pulled any salmon through there this year for some reason and haven't personally seen any caught so I would guess there are some still swimming around. Can't beat salmon and there are plenty of trout in there.
