I have a Frabill 3 man Shelter (2 man) the only issue as of now is the walls are to close to the floor latch where you drill the hole... Unless you use a plastic jig stick your to close to sit straight on so you have to angle your body to the side a bit which gets kinda cramped after a while...  Other than that I love it!

Took it to St A bay right before the thaw and it was raining pretty good for about 30min and it seemed to be pretty water proof.. Don't know how it will hold up to a downpour or a long day of rain though..  The material seems to be pretty rugged

I got my grandfathers 2 person Clam shanty after he passed away.  My original problem with it was the plastic clips at the end of the poles that would connect to another pole like a "T". In sub zero temperatures those plastic clips would shatter. I don't know if they make them that way today, but I tell you it sucks when that happens. The way I fixed it was to replace the clips with those metal wall mount clips that hold broom and rake handles to the wall.  You can get them for cheap at any hardware store. See below. You just screw this into the remaining plastic left in the end of the pole.

ive got a clam nanook. The only down fall is the weight. Hiked about a half mile through the woods and plowed field yesturday with it to a fishing hole , but it sure beats sitting on a bucket.

I have a Killzone XL.  With the heater running the windows fog up so bad that you can't see your tip ups and they're also a little too high for an average guy on a bucket.

Have a Frabil 2 man that pops out of a sled.  I don't like that I can't sleep in it.  I tried, but I'm too big to curl up in the sled.

I have a Frabill Venture.  It is difficult to set up with any kind of wind.  It is also a pain to anchor it so it doesn't blow away.

I built a semi-portable shanty on a trailer several years ago.  It works very well for me.  If I insulated it, it would be even better.  I have a hole through the floor and a tube that goes between the floor and the ice hole.  I also have a window to view tip ups.  Unfortunately, I haven't had much free time to use it.  It's been sitting in my driveway, stationary, for 2 years.  I might put it up for sale.

I have a 2/3 man Frabill and I rarely use it...its a pain in the a...! the doors on the floor don't stay up so I need a stick to hold them open...they came with rings which broke off the first week. the windows are too high unless ur a 7ft. guy. the pins to hold the doors in the floor shut don't readily open in cold weather... Lots of poor thinking in this design...and its only 3 yrs. old.
I'm thinking of selling it and maybe look at the Clam or some other brand...

I have a early clam shelter, the largest they made at the time, 6 comfortably, I'm thinking about leaving it on willoughlby through the season, would this be a wise decision or something I would regret. I'm worried about the wind destroying it

Don't leave it! People will steal just about anything and something like that there is no serial number to make sure its yours if it was taken..

Do NOT leave a portable on the ice! Last year someone stole my permanent shanty!!!

a perpetual series of occasions for hope.

I have an eskimo quickfish and love it! Pops up fast, no poles to fit into place, and with the stakes it is solid as a rock, and I mean SOLID. As a fellow iceman, I'm sure you understand the hellacious conditions that occur on hardwater, and that little red shack has taken every bit of it. The Quickfish shelters are just awesome. My only recommendations are to 1) ALWAYS put at least one stake in. I don't care if it's dead out or blowing like crazy, thefirst time you chase your little red shack across the lake, you will understand why. and 2) put the stakes in prior to pulling it open on the ice (Since it's hub style you can do that) it will prevent you from losing it during setup. Overall one of the best purchases I've made for the ice!

I have the Frabil 2 man rectangle type. It does have a floor, but it is a kite, until you anchor it.
This is hard to do solo in a 5mph wind.
Other than that, it's ok. A great 1 man, but a little cramped with 2 guys, a heater, and 2 flashers.

shappel 2000 (great for by myself)
shappel 4000 ( Ok didn't like wondering if I loose something when I pulled it behind 4 wheeler, everything sits on top)
frabill Preditor (love it kind of heavy, made a smitty sled. Now it pulls like a dream)

hey guys with problem with wind blowing away shacks, anchor before you pop it up!!! I always did that with my shappels.
Used the rope you pull it with to tie to an anchor.

got several and can be heavy when walking long distances. it has to be really cold for me to use it. easier to wear more clothes,LOL. just a sled, a bucket, an auger, 4 poles and my sonar and am good to go!
