Nanofil Leader question
« on: Jan 01, 2013, 06:52 AM »
Well I had a moment of weakness, and I bought a spool of Nanofil.  (I had a coupon, ha ha).  For those of you who use it, are you using a leader?

Be awareof line fray, Nano frays easily in lighter test lines, I'm not a fan for ice applications but do use it in heavier weight for casting crankbaits, does fine as long as you pay attention to the fraying....

For the most part, here in Colorado we use a fluorocarbon leader with Nanofil.  Our lakes are very clear and I think the white Nanofil is very visible in clear water.  I have not tried the low visibility green nanofil for icing yet, but am optimistic it is not as startling as the bright white.  Make sure to use a good knot if adding leader material - Nanofil is very slick and many knots will not hold.  Check the suggested knots on the package or website.   And fraying is indeed an issue.

I bought a spool of 4 lb.  Made no difference what knot I tied or how wet it was when cinching, it would break easy, like a 2 lb. or less.  Almost no effort.  When I did get a good knot, it would slip, also not good.  So it is history...

Use this knot if you're having trouble with knot strength with Nanofil ;)
