« on: Aug 17, 2013, 10:53 PM »
new here and lots of good info but cant find this. fist off i bought a replacment skin for a pro fish 300 and had a corect size sled and decided to build one with 1/2 and 3/4 conduit. they fit way to loose and they collapsed with wind movment.  i looked at my buddys eskimo and his is built with 1/2 and 5/8 conduit that fits much tighter and better, looking on the net i can't find 5/8 galavenived conduit and where.  this is where i need help from others that have tried .
thanks luke

tower870, not sure how big a pro 300 is but you could try 3/4 PVC pipe? The PVC has thicker walls that might fit better.

Try calling electrical supply houses for the conduit, they have to have it.  Another thought is you can call some electricians they will have to know where to get it from.  As for building a flip over I never did it or even thought of doing it.  Please keep us posted on how you make out.  I'm not sure what you're trying to do but am guessing you're talking about attaching the frame to the sled.  What about taking a piece of conduit about 4 or 5 inches long, welding a plate on the one end so it looks like an upside down T.  You can screw the flat part to the sled then drills holes in the up right part and put in pins that have the loop that goes over them to lock them in place, sorry I can't remember what they're called for the life of me, like they have on snow blowers.

Built a Voyager a few years back. I did 1/2 inside of 3/4. I found my button springs on McMaster Carr. It worked perfect. Remember, to close of a tolerance and those poles will freeze together from water or condensation from a propane heater.

i fully understand mud n fun just trying to copy eskimo and not re invent the wheel. I ended up extending my 1/2 pole to make it work.  need to weld a bench seat up and bolt it in to side brackets.  a pro fish 300 is a 2 man sled and similar to a grand caravan in size. it will be a little heave but saved $300 dollars building a flip shack the way I did this one. now to find a propane heater and some led lights. I'll post picks when I get a chance and figure out how. also have to start on my permeate when money provides to build the skies and frame work. I have a 8x12 walk in cooler with out a floor and plan to build a plywood and Styrofoam floor with skis to pull with 4x4 Honda. Tower

electrical conduit is measured on the inside. 1/2 emt is about 7/8 O.D. and 3/4 emt is about 1 1/8 O.D.

I did a scratch one man flipover based on my JetSled 5 or 6 years ago (link below). It's not cost effective, and unless you use a replacement cover for your template, you had better know someone who can sew canvas. It was a for-fun dealio only since I love to tinker. The conduit bending is another challenge. I'd never done it, but was able to borrow a hand bender from a friend.
A 2-man flipover will require telescoping, so find a conduit ID/OD spec somewhere, and order the spring buttons mud_n_fun mentioned.

I think they use regular (galvanized) tubing and not conduit. Regular tubing is available in all fractional diameters with various wall thickness. 5/8 O.D. with a .049 wall thickness
(i think this is a standard size)  would fit real nice over 1/2 O.D.
