vt sportsman derby
« on: Jan 10, 2013, 09:44 AM »
is this a joke i hear that no crappie can be enterd in the mallets bay derby.  what a joke .... 12 gills or seeds anyone can yank seeds seems like the crappie would seperate the men from the boys if you were able to catch a few in the bay

Those are the changes set due to the change in locations.  You are correct it's not a joke, plus if you read the post already started on this topic you would find updates on the event.

we know there are crappie there, but not many, when people fish all day for crappie and one guy catches one out of 40 guys, then there might be some people thinking there are no crappie there.  A lot of people travel for this event so they try their best to make it a positive experience.  Have you ever fished one?

When we finally get some decent ice, we will have to get together and catch some of those "toothy fish".

anybody have the results from this derby? I is my understanding that there were some professional fisherman competing! I dont know who the ''pros'' are but if so, thats pretty cool Lake Champlain VT may get some exposure.

I don't know what I was doing wrong but I would use the same jig and everything and I only caught 1 fish to my buddy's like 30 all day he must have Ben in a pocket or something! I need to hire a pro to show me some persen tation I guess! It is very frustrating! :-\ :-\ I don't care what you had for electronics yesterday you could have dropped it in the bottom of the lake and caught the same thing. everyone says you need one and I don't think I like them unless you are in 15 feet of water or better! A camera works better in the shallows than a flasher IMO!

I think you're right about a pocket.  It's just like in the summer time when you need to cast within inches of certain structure in order to get a steady bite.  I know some guys gps their summer spots so that they can go back and find them when the ice is in.  I still have to do this myself.

P.S.  If anyone has any GPS coordinates out there that they aren't using, just send them my way;  I'll send you some pics.
