Any decent place to catch Crappie in SE Wyoming
« on: Jan 07, 2013, 12:03 PM »
Hi all,

I'm new to the forum but am looking to venture out of the Laramie area and find some fish other than Trout. Anyone willing to share a spot where a guy might catch a crappie or bass without too far to drive?

thanks,

Kurt

Abasarraca Lake and Sloans Lake are located inside of Cheyenne in Frontier Park.  Both have bass (largemouth) and crappie.  As well as gills, pumpkinseeds, perch and trout.

Hawk Springs Reservoir is 40-50 miles North of Cheyenne and it has crappie and bass (largemouth) as well as walleye, perch and catfish.

Grayrocks Reservoir is outside of Wheatland and it has crappies and smallmouth bass.  As well as perch, walleye, catfish and drum.

Wheatland Reservoir #1 has walleye, perch, smallmouth bass and catfish.  It is right outside of Wheatland.

Rock Lake is right below Wheatland #1 and it has smallmouth bass, catfish, walleye, trout and perch.

Crystal Reservoir and Granite Reservoir you may have fished, these lakes are located in Curt Gowdy State Park between Laramie and Cheyenne and both of these lakes have perch.  (and a lot of trout too).

Lastly, Glendo is north of Wheatland and it has crappie and largemouth bass, as well as catfish, walleye and perch.

I know you mentioned bass and crappie specifically but you also said anything but trout.  Those are the closest places to find some non-trout species... (some of those are over 100 miles from Laramie).  I hope it helps if you make it out let us know how you do.

Seminoe Reservoir over near Rawlins also has walleyes.
