Overnighters are a good time and even better when the fishins hot. The only species i've targeted at night are crappie and burbot. Been thinking about trying for some cuts or browns as i do here they can be good night feeders. I mainly do the crappie at pineview not nessesarily staying all night but till about 10pm. A heater is a must and thru trial & error you do need to have some fresh air for the heater to work safely and for the whole night. We cut some 2in PVC about 30in long and stick it under the tent right in front of the heater, works like a champ. We do use buddy heaters (safe for indoor use). A carbon monoxide detector is good to have also.

I spend the night on the ice 3-4 times a year. I use a hub tent (clam xl 4000) I take a cot and use it as my chair until I sleep a buddy heater that you can cook on.... It's the one that pivots and has a wire cover on it.... That way you have one pice of equipment that cooks and heats.... It's light and small making it the perfect one to pack around ( also works at all elevations)

I like to go to starvation the most for spending the night. During the day you will catch tones of perch and a few trout, but at night a rattl- trap with perch meat jugging it brings in walleye and big browns.

Also make sure to get a warm warm sleeping bag.... Plenty of morning's I have woken up to my bag pillow and clothing covered with a good layer of frost...... Also the reason I take a big tank of propane so my heart can run all night just make sure vents are open..... Hope this can be useful.... O and one last thing bait- puck to keep waxies and crawlers from freezing.... Good luck my friend....

Night fishing is a blast. Just something about watching everyone leave and knowing I have the lake to myself and watching the moon rise makes me feel alive!! I prefer the full moon but go when I can and seem to have my best Trout fishing at night. For them I use a HT glow rocker jig tipped with a mealworm. These jigs are very bright and I usually recharge them every 15 to 20 min.  Seems that my biggest Brown every yr. is caught at night and  usually caught while jigging for Walleye. My lantern has become  part of the gear I always take and if nothing else I will stay a couple hrs after dark cuz sometimes it gets hot about then. Been wanting to hit Strawberry at night but haven't made it yet. :-\
If you don't have time to do it right the 1st time  how are you gonna find time to do it over ??
