Flathead Lake South end?
« on: Jan 06, 2013, 10:10 PM »
I have my reservation licence from Mac Days and a friend in Polson.  I've heard people talking about lake trout and perch.  Anyone have any pointers?  I saw some guys out today.

Set tip-ups with a white jig and sausage.  Be very quiet on the ice...best accomplished by drinking a beer and sitting in a chair.  For perch, jigging works but you have to find them.  They like to hide from the lakers.  Best advice is don't fall in.  Ice can be a bit funky out there.  And bring some good boots to walk in.  You need to go out quite a bit.

Ice on east bay is about 2-3 inches depending on the spot was out today... Did alright 8 lakers and let four go. Cut bait right on the bottom.

How deep was the water you could safely reach on the ice?  Did you see any perch?  Hoping there is some ice left next weekend...

I like the idea of tip ups.  Is it simular to pike fishing?
