Marcum software issue??

Being new to the sport I am nearing the time to pull the trigger on new electronics.  I am choosing between the Marcum LX-5 and the LX-7.  I have been seeing folks with difficulities with the software.  I tend to lean towards the LX-7 but don't know if spending the money is wise with the software concerns.  Any advice?  I am planning on fishing for perch and eyes mostly in 10 to 40 feet FOW.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Depends on what you want out of the unit.  Do you want just a flasher, or do you want the options that also come with the LX-7?  For perch, I am going for the LX-7 because it is nice to have in graph mode and see if perch are coming out of the mud.  Nice having a little record to see what the history was.  I also like having the flasher mode.  Since the 7 can do both of these, I am going that way.  Just sold my LX-3 to defray the cost a bit.  As far as software issues, yes the LX-7 has some.  Software v2.9 is working great for guys, while the really new v3.01 is having some bugs.  Check out the "Equipment" thread and "Fishing with Electronics" section to follow some of the questions that are going with the LX-7.

Personally, I would go lx-7. You can always turn the problem features off and use it until they put out an update fix (will be shortly I'm sure). Even "crippled" by the problems, the lx-7 is a nicer unit than the lx-5 IMO. And once they have the update out (free, will always be free) it will be a much better unit.

Thanks for the reassurance.  It seems everything today can be fixed with a software upgrade (at least that is what they would have us believe).
So I am leaning even more to the LX-7

I heard on another site that there might be an update next week for the lx-6, 7, and 9. Should fix most of the problems.

I posted this under the "Electronics" section.  There is a new update that will be coming out next week sometime.  I talked to Marcum this morning.  Hope it is the answer to some of these bugs.

I love my LX 7 with version 2.9 software.  I fish similar depths 10-40 ft for gills/crappie and the 7 performs flawlessly.   The zoom feature is awesome  and the target adjust is great for my bad eyes.   I will not update software until a newer "stable" version is available.  I personally would buy again, but it was frustrating waiting for the original software to be updated.  I think they will get the bugs worked out of the new units.

the software update that is coming is not the 3.01 that people are having issues with...spoke to marcum this afternoon..will be a new software that fixes the problems of 3.01 and is the same for the lx6 and lx7...
