Finally broke the ice.

Got out on Curtis today for my first trip ever. Just 4 small perch but a great time. Glad I got into it. Winters too long to only fish open water.

well done. glad to hear it is fishable. how much ice? a buddy of mine and I went there last year. One of the best days on the ice all year
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there would be a shortage of fishing poles.

I was on Curtis today too, but showed up late and only stayed for about 30-45 minutes. I wasn't really dressed appropriately because i didn't expect to find safe ice. Well, safe for some people but still freaked me out. There was about 4-5" of ice with slush on top that made me feel like i was going through every step i took. Only marked one fish on the vexilar but couldn't get it to bite. We'll hit it hard next weekend now that i know the ice is decent and should only get better as the week goes on!

That still sounds a little too sketchy for me. Did you guys only stay in the boat launch bay or did you get out to the far end of the pond???

I drilled 5 holes I think, 5 inches of ice in all of them. Definitely some crushable slush on top but I reached in to feel the real stuff. I was feeling pretty cautious considering I hadn't done this before but it seemed safe to me.
