s.e. mich un-safe ice
« on: Dec 27, 2012, 08:49 AM »
went out to eiter look or spud should be a week or two maybe three till we can stand on water in south east michigan. any ways seen some deer wile out looking forgot to take a pic of the lake but got some deer photo's. any ways i just did some looking the ice has water sitting on top of the ice cause of the weight of the snow cracked the ice. so wait a few weeks is my suggestion for south east michigan it was about  5 days ago we had 55 degree temp now we got snow and ice so waiting should be done!

2-3 weeks... No way.. be out this weekend buddy.... A Buddy of mine walked out on his lake yesterday... Only 2 inches but the next 2 nights are in the teens and he looked today good amount of the snow actually created overwhelming large wet spots which is a good thing... that will turn to ice..... Not saying all spots will be safe but there will be a few if you are careful and know your spots

 great Pics BTW

the lake i am talking about had 2 inches of ice. now has tons of wet spots and is a huge lake and a damned up river.  so it is harder to freeze over  it is under standable that smome smaller lake and pounds will be fishable ya but not this one yet.. any ways best of luck stay safe

You're right.  What's bad is where you can't see the slush cause it's covered up by snow.  The snow insulates it, and it's hard to freeze.  Wet spots exposed to cold air are going to harden up fast.

Kent always takes longer than most. Just like Ford and Belleville.

Looking out the window now at two tipups I set about an hour ago. Buddy stopped by and we were walking around a bit and even standing side by side. Not the greatest ice but it's fishable. One inch of frozen slush ice, a half inch of water then an inch and a half maybe two of clear solid. With tonight's low, it can only be better in the a.m.

Remember to be safe out there! I'll be headed on the lake tomorrow, but I'll have a kayak along side of me just in case!
