I think after last year stores were afraid to stock them until they knew for sure we would have ice this year.  I got lucky and bought a couple solo's before they were gone.  Everybody in Des Moines area is out also.  I am going to try new semi-live bait ideas next time out (slices of shrimp, slices of hot dog, red wigglers, etc).  who knows, maybe I'll stumble onto something new.  Can you imagine how far an .88 package of hot dogs cut in tiny slivers would go....  If so, I'll be sure to post about it.  Maybe due a post on "back-up bait".

Had tons of waxies that I grew myself. Too bad they were full grown a month early and are now dead....little off on my life cycle timing.  They love that vitamin powder  :o
I've caught bluegills on hotdogs in open water before

With season coming to an end, I thought I would give u a review. I ordered live bait from Wholesale Bait in Indiana on January 14th this year. I ordered hot pink spikes, regular spikes, and wax worms. They arrived two days later at my door in Iowa. Directions said to keep my spikes in a sealed bag in the cold section of my fridge, and my wax worms in a 55-60 temp. I stored my wax worms behind the couch, on a window ledge behind a mini blind. Here it is March 21, and  my bait is still very much alive, with not a lot of dead ones. The largest number of dead bait over time, has showed up in the pink spikes. This is my 1st bait ordered online, and I am very happy with the results. Thought I would share. It was nice not being a slave to the local stores' hours, spending gas and time driving to the store, and waiting in line to purchase.

as the waxies disappear, has anybody seen a store with crawlers or redworms?  i would think the two would relate but I haven't been able to find any, anybody seen any?

My Walmart does also.  I use to keep my waxies  but this year put them in a crawl space  that was about 55* all the time and they kept much better like ASAT's.
