Poison creek produced a few decent ones. Pretty consistent all day. Ice ranged from 3.5 - 4".
Be careful with the kiddos out there.

How is the road into Poison Creek?  How far out from the campground do you go out fishing for perch?  Is it more productive than the lake side of Sugarloaf?

Why is it some folks can not be helpful even at Christmas time? It is quite an ordeal to load up the truck with people and gear, drive 80 miles to Cascade to spend an entire day ice fishing with family. And some asks a simple question like where is a good place to fish where the family can catch some perch or what jigs and bait are the most successful. Instead of being helpful they get answers like " find out for yourself" " do you want us to reel them in for you too?" I grew up in Upstate Wisconsin on a lake. Ice fished for 40 years. No one treated anyone else like that there. They would even share bait with strangers if they had the wrong stuff or ran out. Too bad fishernman can't be like that here. Sign of the times I guess. That is too bad it has even crept into ice fishing.
Fish hard, or go home.

Ham, we are headed out tomrrow too. Where are you thinking of starting at? I am going to see what reports come in at the end of the day and then decide. Some posters on here may be able to catch a big perch through the ice and call themselves an ice fisherman but they don't know the first thing about being a sportsman. I hope you get some good advice today. Hope we see you tomorrow.

I'm modifying my post, the tip-up meant I was joking, bowhunter98 posted our report already, and the sportsman comment was not called for, you do not know me thank you very much. I simply answered the 3 questions with an answer, make a trip.... Not sure how that answer brought all the negativity... ???

You must be paranoid to think we were speaking about you. Every post I have seen on here everyone that requests info has asked nicely. Who do you think you are?,  Jack Nicholson from " A Few Good Men?" Ask nicely?  I don't even want to know what criteria you consider makes a good sportsman. You probably consider how many killings you have or the huge numbers of fish you have caught, that they make you a sportsman. I have seen alot in over 25 years working with the Oregon State Police. Unlikely you even figure out what being a true sportsman is until much later in your life. Right now you just think you are all that. I don't even know you, but I can guess you are probably in your twenties. Good luck with the chip on your shoulder, it will carry you well through life.

Poison creek you can usually get on some fish. I considered not posting anything, it's still pretty sketchy out there. I know what I'm comfortable with. I had the piks handy, wore a pfd, and spudded the whole way out. I wouldn't recommend to anyone that it's safe to go. If you do, go prepared. Better yet give it a few more weeks.
Road to Poison was fine. I believe they keep it plowed all season for Tamarack. Need any more specifics, send me a PM.
Be safe out there. Hope you all have a great Christmas spending time with your family and friends.

Reports are sounding a bit sketchy on the ice conditions today, but I was thinking Boulder Creek. If ice is 4" at Poison then no way it's 6" at Sugar. Further North you can get the better it should be and Boulder is more of a bay (not sure if that makes a huge difference)

Well.  I didn't know that asking questions about ice fishing in your area would cause such a problem.  I live in a remote area in North Idaho.  I can't just "make a trip" without considerable investment of time and money.  It is a six hour road trip if the roads are clear.  Hence the need for as much information as possible to make it a worthwhile venture.  We did make a trip last year and fished off Sugarloaf (3 mile 4-wheel ride) just at the end of last ice.  It was a blast and we had a great time catching nice perch.

Thanks Jiggin. Might be worth staying shore side of anyone else out on the ice!

Have a Merry Christmas with family and friends.

Actually Rickgehrke i hunt and fish with duckslayer and id beg to differ with the sportsman banter..matt is quite mindful of the outdoors and picks up trash that others leave behind etc etc... Matt and i hunted elk this fall and he harvested and i didnt but thanks to being a sportsman i have half an elk in my freezer. I met Duckslayer on here last year and since have become friends and the week after we met he took me to his spots on cascade fishing for perch and we through back more than we kept...Anyway enough said ...
