Could this ever work (tanaka and a lazer)
« on: Dec 13, 2012, 07:05 PM »
I was wondering if anybody has ever tried to use a lazer hand auger with a tanaka power head. I have a five inch lazer hand auger and was thinking of how mobile I could be if i had my tanaka power head hooked up to it.  I looked briefly for a quick answer but could not find an adapter.
Have any of you guys done this or have any ideas for me?

Can be done if you find someone to make you an adapter, I have no issues being mobil and drilling more holes than my buddies with my Tanaka and 8" Nils...

I have the 8 inch nils auger on it right now.  I was just thinking I could drill that many more holes in les time if i was not cutting through that extra 3inches  of ice all the way down.

esox  do you have the power point on your 8 inch auger or the regualr head. I think i am getting the regular head for mine and having the power point resharpened and use one of them as a back up.

I have the power point on both of my heads, first one made it 5 years before I hit something and needed it resharpened, now better than it was new...

My buddies went to a machine shop and had the adapter made to stick the lazer on the echo power drill. Fast isnt the word, besides you can run all over the place. As i recall it wasnt crazy $ to have done.

I have had several different adapters made for different augers to adapt them to my Nils. If the rotation is correct its an easy job for anyone with a lathe.

Buy a regular Tanaka Powerhead...not the Nils head....cut bend out of handle on Lazer....jam a 1/2" threaded rod into chuck on powerhead...add a little weld...you have instant (faster than Nils) powerdrill...we have been building em this way very near thirty years....you can have any good machine shop build you one...had a friend have a couple made for an Echo drill, was not cheap....
It's all about Karma.....
