I wanted to make a auger rack to mount on the rack on the back of my 2 up. I just had a gun holder mounted on each side of the rack, but it put alot of pressure on the transmission area bouncing around on the ice. So i deciced to give it a shot and make something CHEAP that would give good support and spread the weight of the auger across the rack on the back and could handle high speed ice crossings. Our first mission was to get some steel tubing. We hit a steel shop up and bought some leftover pieces they had for ten bucks ( enough to make 3 holders) It cost us 2.50 each for the ubolts to mount them to the sleds. We both already had the gun holders.
I chose to use 3 gun holders for mine
This milk crate is the exact same size as the rack on the back of my sled, so it was a great template. The auger sits in perfect and with one ubolt on each side is going nowhere.
My buddy didnt want to buy another pack of gun holders so we made one for his, hes gonna slide some rubber hose over it to protect the auger after he paints his with bedliner paint. I might do that to mine, well see how his turns out.
