Also just moved to Vermont
« on: Nov 26, 2012, 10:31 AM »
Just moved to Manchester area. Wondering if anyone could point me to a decent, semi-local place to begin my Vermont ice fishing career. I have a snowmobile and 4wd vehicle so ease of access isn't necessarily an issue but as I  fish alone I prefer to avoid places with current. Thanks

Welcome to Vermont. i live just north of you in Rutland and I fish all over rutland county and the NEK up north. some of the spots you should check out for sure is definitely Lake Champlain, because you never know what you might hook into there. Another spot that should be Lake Bomoseen, especially if you like giant perch ,or if you like to chase bass or pike this the place to be. Now these 2 lake are real big lakes but if you are looking for smaller lake with less crowds, then i suggest these lake . Glen lake , Emerald lake , Hortonia, Burr pond, huff pond, chittenden Dam, . You probably wont get the size of fish that you would if you fish lake Champlain or bomo but you get allot more fish on these smaller lakes. Good Luck
I do all types of fishing; but I am Die hard Ice angler.
I love Ice Fishing the lakes of Rutland County. Recently moved to NY and now will be Ice fishing the Lakes Of New York.

Thanks for the suggestions. Much appreciated. Yeah I like to chase just about everything but a nice pike is high on my priority list this year. I usually fish the bigger waters in the Adirondacks. Ive fished Champlain from the NY side but further up north. The far south end can be productive as well?

there also some very good pike in Glen lake which is west of lake Bomoseen and as matter of fact the Vt state record is still held from the lake . A local legend to talk to over there would be Joe brono who has caught allot of pike over the 20 pound range. good luck
