Fold-A-Sled
« on: Nov 09, 2004, 06:33 PM »
Anyone have any experience with the Fold-a-Sled? It's a fold up dog sled type of sled for towing with 4 wheeler or snowmobile. Would appreciate comments, good and bad.
Thanks, Jerry

I've got one that sits in the garage, and never gets used anymore.  They are okay on hard packed surface, but around here there's too much powder snow.  They are heavy and sink in too deep.  If you have hard packed snow or just take it on solid ice, they are okay.

Fshrmn summed it up nicely, and if there's any slush it'll stick to those steel runners and build up underneath til the sled weighs a ton. I've got one behind the garage that I haven't used in years. You would be better off with one of those plastic "boat" types they sell.

Me and a buddy used one for years to haul dog crates loaded with hounds to the swamps in winter to hunt hare. We even hauled fire wood with it, pulled with a atv. I bought a new one last year from Cabelas, and UPS delivered it to my door. I love mine. Fold it up and put in shed, doesn't take up much room.

I picked up one of those metal fold a sleds this year (used $60). They are heavy, 80+ lbs. I'm only gonna use it if conditions are good for it, meaning no slush. My first year with it so I'll see how well the snowsled pulls it. I like the fact that someone can ride on the back and the side rails are great for tying bungees or straps onto and the metal runners won't wear thin crossing roads.

I use one. It works ok but does become an anchor when you get in the slush. I put a piece of sheet metal on the tongue to keep snow from being kicked up into the sled. I need to work at some remote cabins and also use it to haul tools and materials. Again deep snow is not it's friend. I will drop it and make a few passes with the machine before I get too deep.
