Canadarago Lake
« on: Feb 18, 2013, 11:36 AM »
I met my son at Canadarago this weekend.  I live just off the shores of Lake Erie and he lives in NYC. We had planned for a fishing reunion for a while and since Canadarago is about the midway point it was picked based on convenience for us both and recommendations from friends.  Well....the regulars who fish this lake really have a jewel here.  You are very lucky.  Access is easy, the walk is not far no matter which direction you head, the ice is good, the scenery is fantastic and the fishing is really good.  We had a great time visiting your area and hope to make it back next year.  Just my $.02 worth - keep the details of your catch out of the "Reports and Conditions".  I really like Shanty but I've seen lakes ultimately ruined because of some of the reports (sorry Mods).  I really like this place.  A special thanks to TheSystem who took time and offered excellent advice to two total strangers.  Without his help looking for accomodations, bait shops and anything else we needed, we wouldn't have had the head start that allowed us to maximize our time spent there.  I offer my best regards to all who help keep this place in top form (I saw the pile of garbage left last week and was picked up by a good samaritan).  Good luck to all who fish here and keep up the good work.

Great report Angola Fish and yes The System is a nice guy that I've communicated with also that'll assist with what you need. He know the lake well. I'm not sure where you contradicted yourself ??? ??? But nice post and glad you had a good time  :)

Hey John, glad you guys had a good time.  Fishin was a little slow but what a beautiful day.  Glad I could assist in your reunion - good people helping good people is what it's all about.  Icecutter, appreciate the kind words, you're no rookie out there yourself, and the camaraderie this site can foster is exactly what's best for our sport  .  For as much bad/over publicity this site can give to a lake, we on here just have to be smart about recognizing the right people, even online.  Believe me, I don't give out too much info on Cando to just anyone, but I know good people real quick and you guys sure as heck fit that bill.

I think the confusion lies in the fact that AngolaFish sees Canadarago as a hidden gem and warns of the dangers of overfishing, but others see this very thread as leading to increased pressure on Cando.  I welcome all fishermen on "my" lake, but ask that anglers remember that the limit number of fish is a MAXIMUM amount, seems like most believe that's the minimum they need to take home in order to have a good day!

Hey system! I agree some people might get a little greedy. I've heard friends tell of taking way over the limit. I come with my son every May for perch. We usaully stay a few days and figure them out enough to get enough for a  good fish fry with family. Was wondering if you've ever fished April or ice out? We like to come early before the jet-skii's get out.  thanks bud , perchprince

Other guys may weigh in here, but I have a real hard time in April.  I get tons of big perch looking at my lures but not committing to bite.  I think the water's not quite warm enough for them to chase a horizontal presentation, so I would probably say to present bait or jigs vertically then.  I look for the sunny flats and slow tapering dropoffs.  If I only had one day to fish though, It'd be in May.

As an old coot, it great to be alive.  Perchpopper & I both had surgery this winter (attention young guys - your body parts wear out). ;D  We had fun today and as usual, we caught lots of dinks.  Its amazing to me to be ice fishing & watch a stream of surface water pouring into the hole you're fishing.  Geese were in the air all day.  Man, do I love springtime.

System, thanks bud,  We love the lake, it's along ride to get there but it is awsome to see eagles and listen to tractors in the distance. We rented a cottage off a constuction guy a few years back. Maybe we can get together this may and trade secrets. I think you talked to my brother at the northern challenge last year.  tight lines. perchprince

right now is when 'rago is at its finest.  If your not getting numbers of fat breeders, you need to cover more water.

Just got back from fishin on 'rago Today had a very good catch, unfortunately it was all perch but I don't mind :)
I think that perch is the most abundant fish at canadrago. Caught over 75 perch all good size and some jumbos let a lot go and kept some for dinner
Does anyone know how to upload photos on this forum?
