Otter Cotage Rant
« on: Nov 07, 2012, 03:07 PM »
I bought the cabin and it came with no instructions. Next, there a big bag of bolts marked china. The the Seat I got was wrong. The cover I got was too small. And to top it off I have to drill 12 holes for the instillation  and 5 hours later we were done.

Never again

Otter did take care of me in the end.

Was this a kit you got? Pro or Cottage?

The Chinese bolts was not surprising, all the companies use bolts from Asia. I bought my Otter Pro like 6 or 7 years ago and did not have to drill any holes to assemble it. I did later add bolts to further secure the "trim lock".(which I recommend everyone does. Only problem with the cover I had was it was missing one velcro loop for the one pole.

This is a little disheartening to me, I am just a smidgeon away from pulling the trigger on an otter pro lodge. I was just looking at the Otter, Clam and Frabill thermals and liked the build of the otter better than the others.

How do you feel about it now that Otter has corrected the issue and you have it assembled?

I got the cottage last year. Mine did come with instructions but I had ta drill my own holes. Everything else was as advertised. I did take a few hours. I wanted ta make damn sure i was drilling in the right spot. Last year, Otter had the instructions posted online. What do ya mean by wrong seat?

 Just wondering

I just got an Otter Cottage and had no issues at all.  It is a great piece of equipment.

I have a Lodge and a Cottage and putting it together was a breeze. They have the instructions posted online. I also had to drill 5 holes for both of my shacks and didn't think it was that hard. I had a clam guide and still have a scout and would rather have the Otter's over those. I had problems with the seat bracket for my cottage and Otter had one to me in 2 day's.

you would think with how much money you spend on these shanties they could at least drill the holes and print a couple pages of directions for you

My Cabin was missing seat brackets and hardware. So i had to wait a week to get it. It all worked out in the end, but just a PIA.  Even with that, nothing beats the otter sleds.  I had a shappell before that, and the sled lasted one trip across Erie.

I've had a few small issues with Otter in the past with two purchases of 2 different shacks. I really felt their CS was A+ and they got me parts the next day both times. However that was before Ice Force was formed, so I'm not sure how or if that effects anything since then.
