If I have my cover on my truck bed, my yukon doesnt fit underneath anyway, so I use a hitch hauler. nothing fancy, fastened a couple of 2x4's to make it a little bigger to solidly hold the shack. With the HH, I dont have to lift it up so high, I can just put the nose up there, and lift up the back end, cover it with the cabelas cover, lash it down with a couple of ratchet straps and good to go.....
So I bought one of those universal covers from Cabelas, and put that on the top of the sled, and I got the large size so it covers most of it so it does a good job keeping the grime off. Prior to that, I would put a tarp on the HH, then set the sled on, and wrap it all up. That works too. The ratchett straps though, do get a bit gunked up, and if you dont rinse them off, you will only get one season out of them. I had to put a couple of 2x4s on the HH to lengthen it a bit, but once it is all strapped down, it all rides really good.
littlesturgeonguyI bought that lift in the begining of the summer for my Otter pro thermal cabin. It has been simply AWESOME to be able to get the shanty up out of the way and use the wasted space in my garage. The one thing I would recommend is to replace the lag bolts that come with it with longer ones. I was WAY to nervous having this thing sitting over my wifes car 24x7 with the small bolts that came with it. For me it was easy to mount as I have open space above my garage so I actually doubled up the joists on one side to ensure the lag bolts here secured properly. It took me the better part of 4 + hours to get this thing hung properly to were I felt secure lifting the shack, and just to be sure I did not park the car under it until the next day - did I mention that it was my wifes car that goes below it !!!!I raise and lower it with my 18v cordless drill and it works great.
