Road trip Wisconsin 2013....help!
« on: May 22, 2012, 05:10 PM »
I am hitting the road in Jan for 11 days of ice fishing. I am open to suggestions for must-fish lakes in Oconto and Marinette Counties. Mainly looking at chasing Crappie/panfish, Northern, Bass. My goal is to hit the less-pressured backwaters and stay off of the lakes that get hammered (IE: Shawano, etc). Any suggestion must have a boat ramp (Hauling out the big shanty!)

Thanks

I would suggest getting a little further north and or west from there,  some really good fishing in Oneida, Vilas, Forest, Langlade, and Lincoln.

Where? I am looking mainly for Crappie....BIG Crappie! The biggest I caught last year was 12 inches. I want to spend my vacation hunting bigger Crappies!

Harry,

I have never fished the counties suggested by Crappie Guy, I fish the northwest part of the state.  However, I would call the chamber of commerce,  in Minocqua, Rhinelander, Tomahawk, etc.  Or do a search for the county tourism department, and then contact them.   Hopefully you will get some leads that will help you find a spot.

Chippewa Flowage is open to ice fishing again this year and there are some monster crappies in there, it's a very large flowage and could take that long to fish it. Starting 12-1-10 ice fishing was finally allowed on the Chippewa Flowage, you still cannot catch Walleye or Musky through the ice but you can catch panfish and northern.
