Fishuhalik,
I will cut you some slack, Variety is the spice of life! But don't give up now. You have heard of March Madness that just don't apply to basketball. I have caught some of my biggest Pike and eyes on late ice, Two years ago 33" eye she was huge! did not have my camera no scale, I had to release her.

From Rover Owner: Ice fishing suits me much better because I can only steal an hour or 2 here and there to get out.  Once I get to the lake, I'm out on the ice fishing within 5 minutes, as opposed to open water where I'm messing with a boat and trailer, or fishing from shore and getting muddy and not catching fish. Roverowner, It takes me an hour to an hour and a half to get my sled unloaded, pulled out to my honey hole, holes dug, shanty set up, heater lit and tipups set out. In open water I can have the boat launched and be at my spot in 30 minutes. I'm with you on this Fishahulic. I love ice fishing, but I'm ready to dust off the flyrods and catch some trout ;D I have been eating fried perch for a solid month now, and am ready for some fresh grilled trout! I can't wait for ice season during fall, and vice versa around this time. I guess the grass is greener on the other side.

Ice fishing is great to hang out with your friends and have a few beers and talk. This is a little hard to do in a canoe. Man you are in the wrong room. Most people are diehard fishermen that love the hardwater.

Gee, it looks like I may have found a market for my "Year 'Round Portable Ice Floe". It's still on the drawing board but in essence is a 1/4 acre ice floe generated and maintained with some very NASA like refrigeration equipment.
You back a truck up to your favorite lake, dump the unit on the shore, then "...inflate and refrigerate.". The holes are pre-drilled ten inchers 'cause yer gonna catch some big fish here. You can even fish off the edges, drift fish, or troll,(it takes up to a 300hp stern drive, the only problem being, "How inell do you find the stern of a quarter acre?"
As soon as I get that sorted out we'll start production, with improvements as we go along, like, where to put the bar and changing room for the "Ice-hole dancing Girls."
Good fisin' to all, no matter where ya get it.  ;D
All folks follow Chainsaws first law of diminishing enthusiasm, "Ya just hafta want to do some things more than others."

Sheesh, I figured I was surrounded by real fishermen.  Some of you just hang it up after the ice melts?  I couldn't do it.  There's just too much fun to be had!  As far as solitude goes, I take it none of you have ever been to the BWCAW.  No better place to be.  Or maybe on any other lake in northern MN, where you might see one other boat in a year of fishing.  Sitting in a canoe at sundown, listening to the frogs & loons, with the occassional mallard flying overhead.  I still have some great ice fishing to do in the late season, though.  Especially those late ice Red Lake craps!

Always wear clean underwear, cuz ya never know when the paramedics are gonna have to cut your pants off.

Open water...isn't that what they call it when you twist the cap off the top of a bottled water?  What do you need to keep your beer cold on open water?  ICE  :cookoo:  Need I say more ;D
Fish may be stupid but I've never seen a perch sitting in a boat with a second degree sun burn trying to catch a man.

Let me know when you start production, I'll take 2... ;D

As much as I like open water fishing I wouldn't mind if we had ice year round. Makes all of the lake accessible to us guys without boats.

You're doing better than most with the 'eyes, Slipbob.
I personally hate the time between ice out and when I can put the boat in.
It's almost as bad as the Fall, but at least there's stream fishing for trout!

Spring transition is definitely a low time for me.  Fall is okay because I have hunting but waiting for ice off in late spring when the ice is rotting and unsafe and the days are warm enough to enjoy being in a boat and basking...well it just sucks!  I usually travel to find open water come late April but we should have fishable hard water here for a couple months yet.

Curse the man who only fishes one season!  :-*;D
I fish therefore I AM!
