machinist, usually I use the vex in the same hole I am fishing, but before, when using two rods for lakers (because the lakers come to the area by the jigging, but don't like the jigging and hit the still pole instead) I have put the vex in the middle hole. That is drilling 3 holes in a straight line, and having the vex in the middle and both your poles on either side. It works and you can see both lures with your vex. This is a good option especially if you want to monitor two poles, if the fish are nonaggressive you can draw them in with one and they will hit the other. usually though, I use the vex in the same hole I have my jig rod in.
