Can't walk on the water any longer
« on: Mar 24, 2012, 08:53 AM »
We went out one last time, hit the ice Wednesday morning, ice was good going out, put in a good shift 9:00 to 5:00 with only three Cutbows 2 1/2 to 3 1/4 pound range, no pictures, 40° + no wind, lots of sun, two faces sunburned, 20+ inches of ice.  Getting off of the ice proved to be the end of the season for us, one quad, two people through the ice at the boat ramp.  The up side is water is only about knee deep, down side we had to unhook the trailer from the quad when things started to go south.  Then we had to go get the truck and back it down the ramp to give us a platform to work from to get the rest of the gear that really didn't like the water, like the camera, powerhead for the auger and other items that wouldn't float well.  By laying the quad ramps out from the truck I was able to get to the trailer and recover the gear and tie a rope to the trailer and brought it off the and out of the water.  It was a great day with all things considered, a nice glass of chilled wine for my partner a good cold beer with dinner over looking the lake of ice that will soon be gone, The Lord blessed us with fish for dinner, no one got injured.  Only 10 more month until ice season again, might have to learn how to soft water fish while we are waiting.  Best wishes and good luck to all from Northern Nevada.             Well it's sort of a nice story to a end of the season. I'm glad it was a good day on the ice but sucked when you were getting off. I've had days similar to that as well @ the end of the season. We tend to want to get that 1 last trip in.

I did not know lakes froze in Nevada, let alone getting 20 inches of ice ! Who knwe - this must be at a high elevation ?

Yes it is up there in elevation 6200 feet above sea level right the dam, water is 50 or 60 below the spill way this time of year.  If you look at a map of Nevada follow state route 225 north from Elko about 60 miles or 40 or so miles from the Idaho border, Wildhorse State Rec area. Les
