Lucky traps
« on: Feb 28, 2012, 01:07 PM »
Anybody feel that one of your traps is lucky?  I have one trap that's been on fire this season and there is a back story.  This season, I bought one of those ht polar tip ups from ll bean b/c I had a 10 gift certificate.  I ended up paying 6 bucks and change.  When I got it I noticed that a thumb screw was missing.  The thumb screw allows you to adjust how far the shaft with the spool hangs below the cross bar.  Without it the trap works fine but I called and asked if they could mail me a new one anyway.  I was told they would look into it and get back to me.  About a week later, they told me they couldn't send me just the thumb screw but would ship me a whole new one free of charge.  I declined for a couple reasons.  #1 would be that I'm not positive if I lost it or it didn't come with it, and #2 it wasn't going to prevent the trap from catching fish and #3 I didn't even pay full price for it to begin with.  Because of reasons 1, 2, and 3, I felt that I'd be taking advantage of beans.  The guy on the phone was surprised and thanked me for my honesty.  Ever since then, that trap has outproduced every other trap in my arsenal and I chalk it up to fishing karma lol.  It's the only one I have of that style so I'm positive it has been the biggest producer.

I believe in fishing karma too.  If I have a bait that is still alive at the end of the day on my tip up I always let him go free.

I too use polar tip-ups don't get a lot of wind flags. Another nice thing is you can get them in other colors like pink ! Our 10yr old daughter is liking icefishing since she caught a nice 5lber on her new pink tip-up on the first day out with them. I also have lost a thumb screw I just try to be extra carefull not to loose any more.
