what jigs have you been catching them on?
« on: Feb 09, 2012, 06:16 PM »
well guys? what have the fish been hitting for you this season? these are the top producing jigs for me so far this season. on the left is a live forage perch jig that i have been tipping with a small live fathead minnow. its done fairly well for perch and some big sunnies. the second from the left is a tear drop that has a very strong green glow to it. it has been producing some real good results for perch in 18 to 25 feet of water tipped with three spikes. the second from the right doesn't glow but has been hammering the pumpkinseeds with a single spike on it. lots of perch too, one bass, and i have even had a pike strike it. this jig has been catching fish anywhere from 5 feet of water to 20 feet.  the jig on the far right has produced well for perch tipped with a single spike in shallower water (6 to 10 ft) and has caught one pike this season.

i have all those jigs and more .. when you get a chance look into the different Tungsten jigs. These are very heavy jigs but very small and are awesome for fishing deep water perch because its like bullet going down and they show up great on the fish finder too. i think bobbersdown web site has allot of these jigs and that where i get mine.. Good luck
I do all types of fishing; but I am Die hard Ice angler.
I love Ice Fishing the lakes of Rutland County. Recently moved to NY and now will be Ice fishing the Lakes Of New York.

So what are those two on the right, I think the far right in a Gill Getter or MudBug, but can't find that weird looking chartreuse/white jig anywhere.   Who makes it, what's it called.?

I googled paddle bug, something completely different came up.  I'm interested in the jig that is second from the right, looks like someone wound some heavy wire on a hook and painted it green/white.

Many thanks, I found  the video about making them.  Have solder and hooks, just need to buy some nail polish. Tomorrow looks like it's gonna be COLD so would be a good time to experiment making some ABombs

best bet on really hot bright colors for nail polish is at Claire's in the mall...chartrese yellow, chartrese green, hot pink, hot orange and even some glow...make sure the get white for the first coat and a clear for the finish coat....

I fish 3 to 4 days a week and this and last year, I consistently have had my better catches on the Fiska Tungsten Jigs, Robbie has a Tom's Bait and Tackle.  Some days I float down a 5mm in 30-40 foot of water and will watch on the Vexilar,  perch coming up 15-20 feet to greet the little jig and 3 maggots or a Nuggie.  Other times I have had to tie on a little dropper jig to a jigging spoon after removing the treble hook.  This works well when they want to hug the bottom, stirring up sediment for insect larvae.  But when they are really biting and you had to get to them fast, I always go for the "Meat Whistle" or drop crap rig.   I can tell you also that of the few times I have caught perch with minnows in their bellies, it was also within a 100 yards of tips.   Hope this helps.

I used Hali jig blue or tiger (perch) color and 2 bibits highviz colors at every 10 inches . They hit on them hard and fast. I catch smelt, bass and perch as well.

i use tungsten jigs all the time and i almost don't use anything else . They are so much heavier then lead jigs and smaller . i actually ordered some from bobbersdown.com...  6mm tungsten jigs and they have a crap load of those jigs on there.

I just started fishing with tungsten jigs (small 3mm ones) and I really like them.  Green glow 3mm has been really good for me on overcast days, red or orange on sunny days.

I like those colors.  What size hooks and is that lead wire wrapped on the hook with flo yarn wrapped on top?

Colors are all fluorescent... those are #6 hook and i used a plyer to mold split-shot on them. the top wiring is a kind of whyte nylon painted (white is moore efficient to make fluo punch!)
