Finally got around to dumping some pics from the West Grand trip
I went up with the goal of landing my first Whitefish ever. Well here she is

After closer review it kinda resembles a chub on Steroids but did taste very fine

A big thanks to the IS members here that took the time to PM me on how to land these

Nice fish I use to catch them in Sebago, they are all gone , Moosehead i use to catch them No more, I use to catch them in Chensuncook no more they are all gone . I blame them excessive amount of Phosphorus. I think they left Sebago 25 yrs ago, 10yrs later Moosehead then a few years later Chensuncook. They were a fun fish to jig and they were very good eating.

That's a nice whitefish, Dick. They're fun because they add another species of fish to target, they can bite well, and they taste delicious.

my gole next year is to catch a whitefish, I have been icefishing for 34 years and have never even seen one! I hear they are fun to catch put up a lively fight and taste good but I have no clue how to go about catching one.

I believe the togue are probably one of the big reasons whitefish are almost non existent in sebago.There are a few left.I netted one that was still alive and floating on the surface that was about 4 lbs and a friend of mine got one trolling a couple years ago that was 6 lbs if I remember correctly.He has a picture of it somewhere.I'll see if I can get him to post it.

Moosehead is the only spot they are truly gone frm. Still remnants in sebago and they can still be caught in chesuncook

Shellback , The togue in Sebago had nothing to do with there disappearance. Togue co exist with White fish everywhere, Great lakes etc. Whitefish were a good forage fish , to leave several lakes that they always lived in in a time frame manner from south to north solidify my theory Water quality was the primary reason . Togue in Sebago was one of the best moves ever made by a noted Biologist. When a good Biologist makes a good suggestion in Maine .Many times the Political overseers who know nothing. have a final say and all the time and money are trashed. Maine could have a great fish and game dept if they could get the Political agender out of our fish and game funds. Our Hatchery system was so much bigger and better back in the fifty's then it is today. Its kind of like Congress days of arguing with no gain.

So at WG you hammered the togue, traps & jig, pounded some Salmon & also caught a Whitefish. All that & 2000 posts. I'd say you're getting to the 'Fishwhisperer' status. Nice going!

we get them up to ross lake all the time. In my opinion there pound for pound the hardest fighting fish out there
