Fishing Trip!
« on: Feb 13, 2012, 06:24 PM »

Here's the deal.  My old man, brother, and I are taking a trip up to our family cabin outside of Phillips next weekend.  My brother and I have never ice fished the lake (Solberg) and dad hasn't ice fished the lake in over 20 years.  We usually head up during the bluegill spawn and do very well in the two stump bays on the northern end of the lake, but I don't think those bays will be holding many fish since they are pretty shallow this time of the year.  I know very well that I could be wrong about this assumption, but where do you think I should be looking for the fish?  We will be fishing primarily for panfish, so I feel like the muck/mud flats would be a good spot to start our search.  What do you think?

Regardless, time with the family is what we are all excited about, but I wouldn't mind catching some fish too!

Thanks for any advice in advance!

Not even a thought on the matter?

 ???

Not trying to ask you to do the work for me...just looking for some different opinions about where to start the search on this lake!

wow...what a sweet looking lake!   i would start between that .8 acre island between it and that 15' channel that runs next to it...or between the channel and the sunken island that is 8' deep.  looks like a good place to start.  if that is dead i would try the northern most bay, setting tip ups in the shallows and fishing along the weed edges for pan fish.  for whatever reason i have been catching them right around the ten foot depth, but they may be a little higher since the lake is so shallow.   if you have access to a camera and or a sonar and the lake is clear enough, and you can drive out on it, in no time at all you should be able to find fish.   good luck

those two 6' deep sunken islands in the main part of the southern lake look promising too, especially the one right next to the 15' deep channel.
like i said with walleye, panfish, and muskie and bass...there is a lot of places to start.  looks very promising!

after even more research on this lake on google maps...i highly doubt that you guys are going to be alone on your quest.  with 3 boat launches and walleyes present and having been up in the area before...there should be hundreds of shacks on the lake.  look for holes with sunflower seeds, cigarette buts, and lots of yellow snow, and you could be sitting in one of the locals honey holes.
like i said that lake looks cool to fish!!

have fun

Try the river channel not too far from the dam.  Another spot would be to find a couple of the cribs, not easy but they usually hold nice panfish in the winter.
