be careful i was on a couple lakes this morning and the ice was shifting a lot in a couple places i could rock the cracks up and down and at  the one of the lakes the ice is opening up and it broke between the islands and fell it has been the second time i seen it  happen within a week so just be careful..but here is a couple pics from today

lol it is kind of like peer pressure...I probably wouldn't have went to that lake if i would have known it was going to shift like that..I thought it was just making ice or the sun coming out and beaming on the ice but when i was walking off you could see were the ice pushed up on shore about a foot and the wind was eating a big hole right across the boat launch i bet another couple hours people won't be able to walk across...

Fished my canal this morning. Ice felt solid, no cracking or anything. 3". Went out a bit ago to see if any gills were hitting and every step would cause about an 15" in length crack under every foot, parallel with my feet! Fished over a hole for around 20 minutes and was watching water slowly flow out of the hole. Ahh, time to move. Second hole I fished was much better! Should be pretty tight though come Saturday morning. Gotta buddy coming out to give it one last hoorah.

No it was a lake down in union city I only fish W.first ice and that is usually crappy with a lot of dinky gills

My Ice was doing the same, was steady till 10 or so and every hole I drilled would spark a huge crack as far as the eye could see.  Lots of expanding happening, the noises were unreal.  I looked over my shoulder many times only  to see no one there:)

can ice shifting cause you to fall through,because alot of that going on here in clare county but not quite that extreme

It's just honeycombed to all heck. This ice has been slapped, punched, beat down, burned, flooded, and just down right abused by mother nature. I give it credit still for being so supportive!

I checked a lake I was fishing saturday in branch county and its wide open now!

Yeah that wind tore up the ice if it had a little open spot it made it a big one...
