I have a fl20 and a lx3tc, both good, vex is better but was more money, 2 of my buddies are using the humminbird ice 35, best bang for your buck and a great flasher, way better than my lx3 and less money, and as good as my fl20.  Stay away from the showdown!

Depends on what you're looking for. My best advice would be if possible, use someones before you buy.

Personally I like the Marcum line. SFL is big for me since I like the finer lines. However, the flat screen Vexilars are extremely cool. Features wise, I'm sure you'd be happy with either.

I don't fish in deep lakes that much. I would just need something to locate perch or bluegill in anywhere from 6-15 feet of water.

1st time flasher user here.  I bought a flasher like 2 months ago w/o ever having used any type of flasher and finally got to use it to jig.  Jigging is now a whole lot more fun and productive for me and I think I'd be saying this no matter what brand I bought.  You still gotta find the fish of course, but once you do it's like playing a video game.  The only frustrating part is when you know there are fish cause you can see them on the flasher, but you just can't get them to bite.

there was a good deal on a marcum in the for sale section lx3.  depends on how much money you want to spend.  a troller is a great unit for that depth and panfish.  very very mobile is why I carry mine but i also have a lowrance in my shanty.

I would suggest the Humminbird Ice-35 or Marcum vx-1 Pro....... I dont like the Showdowns , they work but once you get use to the color of your flasher it can tell you much more than the black/gray scale.....

I've got the bird 35 and like it. A buddy of mine has a lowrance x67 which was cool. We fished side by side and watched the fish go from his to mine and that was cool. His is a graph style while mine is a flasher. Both worked excellent. All depends on how much you want to spend. Mine was 299.00 2 years ago.

I just bought a new Showdown 5.6 as a back up to my LX-5. It is very user friendly and easy to operate, at almost 1/2 the price of a LX-5 it certainly does the job. I bought it brand new in the box off ebay for $289 w/free shipping. I like my Marcum LX-5 better, it has several more options if your a advanced ice fisherman, and if your ready to drop $500 on your first unit go for it. Otherwise the Showdown 5.6 is a very nice option, you won't catch any less fish because it doesn't have all the colors, bells and whistles..

The x67 has graph and flasher.  After using graph you will never use the spinning wheel.  There all good and all work.  I liked the Lowrance buy online at reeds shipped to door for 237.50.  Plus the adjustable upper and lower levels and zoom is awesome.

Get the Vex Fl-22HD.  Got one this year.  All I can say is Awesome.  Its made for shallow water fishing so you get a full screen view in 10' of water.

It all depends on how much $$ you are willing to spend? A lot of these suggestions are $500+

Funny I just sold a 20 year old Si-Tex / Vexilar FL8 flasher last year on ebay and got over $200 for it. I think I only paid $235 for it new. So they do hold value good.

I bought a Showdown 5.6 last year and so far I am very happy with it. I don't know if it's any better or worse than the other brands but it helps me find fish and has worked without any problems.
