We are all more than qualified to comment on this, doesn't matter what we wear, who we know and what we fish for, thats the purpose of this site, not to attack or accuse, which i hope i haven't done in anyway, if so I do honestly apologize.  Somebody said my opinion was BS, i've never said that to anyone about their opinion.  Sounds like i'm a scapegoat for wearing a blue suit, using a vex and fishing out of a clam fish house and who I know and who has been a great influence on me.  All flashers work.  I agree I might have been a little pushy on the subject and defensive as well.  My apologies.
No worries, I was just yanking your chain. Besides, my real time Showdown is so sensitive I could see that you were going to respond even before you did. ;D
Main thing is to enjoy, no matter how you approach it. Nothing wrong with being passionate. As a matter of fact they should change the Webster's definition for that word to "see icefisherman". We have to be a passionate lot to do what we do. Most people think we're all crazy.
Ice fishing is a social activity that may occasionally be interrupted by the catching of fish.

I guess i need to put my 2 cents in on this discussion. I bought a new Double vision unit by vexilar this year which has a fl-20 fish finder and black and white/ color camera all in one unit and let me tell you this is one awesome piece of machinery . I have fished all kinds units on the market and i would say the vexilar units are great !!! if you can afford it i would definitely spend the extra money and get a unit that has bottom zoom on it . my unit can zoom in on the bottom 6 or 12 feet of the bottom . plus my unit has low power mode which great in areas with allot weed growth. Bottom Mode is great when you are fishing for perch , crappie, sunfish, and even lake trout that hug the bottom of the lake because you can focus your fish finder on them and see how far off bottom they truly are.
i will say that i do like the feature of the hummingbird units that give you instant digital read out of the depth of water you are fishing in. Good luck shopping.
I do all types of fishing; but I am Die hard Ice angler.
I love Ice Fishing the lakes of Rutland County. Recently moved to NY and now will be Ice fishing the Lakes Of New York.

Guess I'll throw in my two cents as long as everyone else is in this thread. I just bought a Lowrance X 67 ice machine and you guys are splitting hairs about supposed real time? The first time I used this machine - I was jigging for Perch in about 15 fow. I had just pulled up to check bait, and started letting back down and as soon as the jig showed up on the screen just under the ice -  a fish detached from the  bottom and arrowed straight at the jig and as soon as the images merged I felt the hit and caught a nice perch. It was really neat and as real time as you could get as far as I'm concerned. How much more (real time) can you get, than seeing the two come together and feeling the hit at the same time? The X 67 also has split screen bottom zoom and the color is great and the screen is nice and bright and very easy to read. I would never even consider getting a flasher after seeing what this little machine can do for a lot less money. Besides - I am used to seeing and reading an LCD, as I have had a Lowrance of one sort or another on my boat for a lot of years.
By the way - the X67 does have an on screen flasher mode if you really want a flasher. I never even tried it after seeing the regular screen. Time after time, I would see the school of fish come into the cone right on the bottom where I was watching my jig, and almost every time I would get a hit - didn't always catch a fish, but it sure was a lot of fun watching what went on.

i just want to throw more thing out there and that i believe any good quality unit will catch you more fish , as long you understand and trust that unit you are fishing with . So buy a fish finder that you think is right for you and i bet you will be catching allot more fish because of it.. good luck
