Little Bay de Noc 1-15-2012

The recent cold weather has really helped out our ice conditions with 10-12 inches found pretty much everywhere from Gladstone north to the head of the bay. Some wicked pressure cracks to watch out for, but still better than it has been. Folks are starting to venture out from Gladstone too. A friend of mine found 6 inches of ice fishing in front of the Gladstone Yacht Harbor yesterday evening. He ended up with 2 keepers, and had 3 others come unhooked! A couple guests of ours caught their limit of walleye yesterday catching 5 nice eaters in the morning, and another 5 yesterday evening (picture). They caught 28 walleye total and 26 of the 28 came jigging with #7 Glow Jigging Rapala's. Perch have been biting good too. The best area has been out near 1st Reef. Lot's of noise coming from Big Bay de Noc too because of how good the perch fishing has been so far. Several locals have told me it's the best they have seen in years. The Whitefish and Burbot bite has been really good too on Big Bay de Noc. By the way, if you have not tried Burbot, you don't know what you are missing! Good luck on the ice folks...Kevin Lee

Thanks for letting me know. My mistake as I didn't notice a separate section for UP reports. Some days I think I can screw up a 2 car parade! Thanks again for letting me know...
