Way to go TFB.  Are those trout native there or stocked like here on the prairies?  Nice shots.

Well, the trout aren't considered native by our cdow (only chubs, suckers, and cutthroat are), but they might as well be as they have lived there for well over 100 years self sustaining. Vega, the lake I caught those trout in, have a mix of wild reproduction and stocking.  A biologist told me 20-25% of the biomass are from wild spawn. The other 75% or so are stocked at like 3-6" in length, so they are basically wild. You can tell the difference from the stocked ones and the wild ones in my pictures, but only if they are females because all of the males have the same darkgreen, sometimes purple colors. A good example would be the female rainbow trout below the perspective picture that includes my vexilar. That is a wild one. The female with the blue ratso in its mouth was a stocked one.I can tell by the more pale color and tiny rub markings from when it rubbed up against the concrete raceway when it was young. I can also tell because all of the wild ones are part cutthroat trout in them because there are cutthroats in the creeks that feed it and a few in the lake as well. The cuttbows have distinctive orange slashes around their "neck". The stocked ones are pure rainbow strain.

Yesterday I was going hoping to catch another 22" rainbow like I have on the thread for the tourney, but my biggest was only 18". The rest of my season I will be focusing mostly on lake trout, but I may hit vega 1 more time before iceout to try to get the tourney winner or at least a good placer. 18" isn't going to cut it.
if anybody from michigan will help me out with the lakes and stuff up here I'd really appreciate it since I'm new to the area.

Every fish in this post here will be from wild spawn. The colorado river, the open water pics, is stocked with 50 rainbows a year, so basically all are wild. There are more cutthroat in the river than stockers, and cutts arent even really considered in the biomass.
Who says december and january are icefishing time? I got plenty of pics of both open and ice. Best time of the year to fish openwater after all.
nice rainbow

Check out this nearly 20" fatty

average female rainbow

Well... until next time. Still have some pics to be developed. Tight lines all!

TFB, at least you can tell everyone that you have lipped northern pike and be completely honest about it.  I'm not sure I'd want to get into the mouth of any of them, regardless of size (unless of course it meant the difference between icing a big one and it getting away, but even then).

Nice shots.

Well I was fishing with him that day and that little pikelet did indeed bite him and he bled. It cut his finger up a bit. I will never lip a pike, walleye, or a big trout. All you get is cut.

Yeah, I did get cut a bit and it bled. At least the cut closed up the next day, this fall when my dad caught an 11 lb. male brown, it bit him right on the web of the hand and it looked like a knife gouged him. It took almost 2 months to completely heal, and he's got a scar from it. That's what I call fish fighting back ;)

here's some pics of lakers and rainbows. The lakers are from ruedi and the rainbows are from vega. The laker you really can't see was a 24" fatty. Hope you enjoy these pictures!
This was actually a 15" rainbow from ruedi. It is the only ruedi rainbow I have in this pictorial
[/img]
18" ruedi laker caught on 1/8 oz. white bucktail
[/img]
Another 18" laker, probably caught on bucktail can't remember
[/img]
Laker about 20" from ruedi caught on white bucktail
[/img]
Here's a picture of my fishing spot at ruedi, its a waterfall in case you can't tell. (pic confused my dad)
[/img]
4 lb. 22" laker from ruedi
[/img]
24" 6 lb. laker from ruedi. Sorry about the picture quality, it really did the fish unjustice, especially with its girth
[/img]
16" beautiful 2lb. vega cuttbow
[/img]
18.5" vega rainbow
[/img]
almost 17" vega rainbow. I was gunna enter it in the tourney, but its beaten by the browns. Too bad they wouldn't let me enter 24" cuttbow
[/img]

Hope you liked these pictures!!!

tomorrow I am going to blue mesa, the lake that has pumped out so many 40+ pounders. Hopefully I can get at least a 10 lber, and maybe some of the newly introduced perch too! Those perch will be euthanized of course, they are ruining that lake.

There was  a 29 pounder (might have been 26, I can't remember) caught there a little over a week ago though, it was in the denver post.

I'm due for a huge laker, its sad when I get bigger rainbows and cuttbows than lakers icefishing! Come on fish gods...have I not been good to thy fish ::) I think I'm losing it :D

AHHHH!!!! I should've went to ruedi and caught me 10-20, 18-22" lakers, with at least one being bigger, 5 or 6 lbs, instead of pounding blue mesa all day and getting one 18 incher!!! Oh well out of 7 people I saw on the ice that day I got the biggest laker, the only other one caught was a 15" by some other dude.

Fellow coloradans, blue mesa $ucks right now, don't go!!! Go to twin, turquoise, granby, or ruedi! By the way, the same guy that caught the 15" at blue mesa said there were 3 lakers over 20 lbs. caught at twin lakes in the tourney :o
