Vexilars, Flashers
« on: Jan 09, 2012, 11:24 AM »
So i've been thinking of adding a flasher to use while out ice fishing, only problem is i'm not 100% sure how to read a conventional style flasher. I've been doin some research and it seems like the Lowrance X-67 would be the right choice for me as it can be used either conventionally or with a digital, more fishfinder like screen. I've also been reading alot of good stuff about the Hummingbird 55ice.

Does anyone have either of these? Or maybe some beginner tips on using a conventional style flasher?

Try these instructional videos from Vex. All flashers work primarily the same, but the layout and controls will differ.

I recently purchased the Humminbird Ice 35. I find it works very well and is easy to operate. In addition it is significantly less expensive than the 55. Regular price $350.....got mine on sale for $300. Seems to be a pretty good bang for the buck  :)

Yeah don't let not knowing how to read it hold you back, I bought one this year and figured out how to read it with in the first day. I could now never be fishing without it.

No problem, just make sure you look for the unit that has the features you want. I have a Hummin Bird and a Vex, both are great units. All the new ones out there are good. You'll enjoy anything you get.

forgetting your flasher at home on a fishing trip is like forgetting to put your pants on and going to the mall.

Hunter ....you seriously cant go wrong with any flasher out there on the market now ,my buddies i fish with almost everyone  of us run diffrent flashers ,i personally use a humminbird ice 55 and i love it with its bigger screen and digital depth and you would seriously be a pro with it in about 30 mins ,couple of my buddies use marcums and they love them same with VEX and you were mentioning the lowrance x67 my one buddy loves his and would never ever change to a flasher there a little diffrent to read but once you get use to them there pretty cool ,its cool to watch the arch move up to you hook .......my best advice is to get a flasher drill 30 holes and go from hole to hole if you dont mark or bring in a fish within 5 mins of being there move to the next hole.

I bought a Humminbird ICE 345c. It is a very versatile unit. It has both the fishfinder view and the flasher view but you will never use the flasher view. Why would you want to look at a bunch of flashing lines when you can see exactly what is down there. The unit can also be mounted on a boat and used in the summer. Cost me $300 plus another $70 in shipping and duties. Plus got a mail in rebate offer for the suction cup transducer. Just had to pay shipping($7.99US).

Anyone is better then none. I ran a LX-5 and FL-22 last winter and neither was better then the other in terms of total fish caught. Had an offer on my LX-5 and sold it. I would suggest a model that has bottom zoom vs one with out.

Cheers!!

Have a Showdown and sent it to states for the upgrade. Really like it. If ice is half clear it will go right through ice to tell you depth without drilling a hole.
