Made It Out Yesterday
« on: Jan 09, 2012, 12:04 PM »
My brother and I headed north yesterday morning around 5:30.  After stopping by a local bait shop for some coffees and shiners we unpacked our gear and headed out on to the ice.  The ice was about 7 inches in most places, clear for the last 3 inches or so.  We immediately regretted not having spikes on our boots as the walking was a little tough on the ice.  We set up over a small hump and put up our shelter.  We fished opposite ends of our headquarters shelter in 8-9 FOW.  We both had a minnow deadsticked and we were jigging with various setups most of the day.  From first bite until about 3:30 the bite was relentless. We pulled close 80 fish out of the water all to be released and swim another day.  So it is possible that we pulled the same 4 fish through the water 20 times.  We landed into mostly all yellow perch with a handful of pumpkinseeds.  We were happy to bring three chain pickerel through the ice as well.  All in all a great first trip out on the ice. Some fine tuning of our equipment is to come.  Pictures below.
