« on: Jan 08, 2012, 06:46 PM »
Had a good weekend with some mixed species fishing....Ice was a little sketchy in some spots still had between 6 and 2 inches some of the ice the spud would got through in 2 shops very sketchy

Day #1
my fish=1 splake, 3 pike
friends=lots of pike action on my buddies rods n tip-ups

My first splake

first pike of the day

#2

last one

Day #2
my fish =2 splake, about 4 pike
my buddy got pike, crappie, perch n a bass

Splake #1 and one of my pike

Another Pike

Splake #2

If you dont know where you are going be safe fish with a buddy and go on familiar ice until it gets colder we have a warm week ahead with no sign of ice making weather Good luck and prey for some cold weather

it was a an okay day people just have to stop taking 10 pike off the ice everytime they go out i seen guys at that  spot on the weekend with a few pike at just about 12 t0 15 inches long it was  sad fishing seems to be excellent this year so far so hopefully some cold weather to harden up the bay  a little more good luck boys and be safe

I will share more info publicly on large water bodies like quinte and loughbrough once there is safe ice where there is room for lots of people to fish and not be cramped

Splake and crappie were caught on mud minnows and various jigs I would know its a splake because a decent size blob would circle my bait on the flasher about 5 times moving non stop then give it a little nibble you really gotta let them take it before you set the hook it seems the pike were checking out the lure for a sec then aggressively smashing my jig

Top lure of the year so far is the buckshot although I caught fish on several others too

I dont usually keep pike cant be bothered cleaning them I kept my 3 splake for the table ill keep a 4-6 pound pike out of deep water if i got someone that will clean it for me but i prefer my lakers, walleye and jumbo perch for dinner over anything else never eaten splake but I assume its like lake trout I will donate a decent pike to the less lucky fishermen i see on the ice

@Seoo.  Nice fish man.  If you can't be bother to clean pike, check out this video.
.  Pike is great eating, and even better during hard water season IMO.  The method in the video is easy to master after a few fish.  I don't like to leave that much waste, so sometimes I boil the carcass after filleting, let it cool and pick the meat off the bones. I mix this with some rice crispies and spices and then a quick fry of fish cakes. The kids love them. ;D
