New 345c crapped out on me
« on: Jan 08, 2012, 07:37 PM »
Just bought a new Humminbird Ice 345c, it seems like a very nice unit. On my third trip using it, it stopped showing any details on the screen. So i turned if off then on again. Now says "transducer not connected"
Does anyone have this unit or the 385ci? Sounds like a faulty ducer to me. Are they that common to fail?

thanks for any input

I have a 788ci from my boat that I use on the ice w/ the conversion kit. When I first start it up it will say the same thing, "transducer not connected". The reason mine does this is because it is trying to use a transducer that reads temperature. The ice fishing transducer doesn't have that capability. So, to get around this: When the unit is first turned on, as soon as the startup screen comes up, push the menu button, when the menu screen comes up, select normal. Works just fine. I don't know if this is what yours is doing, but it's worth trying. If not, give the customer service a call; they've always been helpful with any questions I have.

My ice 385ci doesn't do that. It just shows that there is no temp sensor present, but sees ice transduser just fine. I would chech the connections as well

Check your owners manual.  If no help, call Hummingbird.  I don't own that brand, but hear they have great customer service on the phone.

Good fishing,
Keith

Thanks for the replies!
I brought the unit back to where i bought it and ended up being a faulty transducer! I hope this isn't an ongoing problem. They said very few humminbird ice finders come back with this issue.

Has anyone else had transducer issues with their birds?

I'm sure it's just one of those things,  I wouldn't worry to much about it.  Your's is the first that I have seen on here with a problem, I know that they are newer units but still that is pretty good.

When I talked to a repair guy he said they had a bad batch of "summer" transducers some time ago, but winter ones are not known to have major problems
