Thinking of going over to the darkside
« on: Dec 26, 2011, 04:49 PM »
I think I have my lx-3tc sold for a fair amount and am thinking of getting an x-67.  The new ice pack looks sweet and the price is a steal right now.  I am a longtime button pusher so should have no problems dialing her in.  So why am I still hesitant.  It appears the unit will do everything I want it to do  and more.  But theirs something inside me holding me back.  Please help me.  Ok so my questions are is this thing good in skinny water.  I am often fishing below 6 ft  and my marcum  I use in 2.5 ft for pannies.  I notice a lot of the 67 posts are from walley guys in deeper water.  Any body using em real shallow for smaller fish?  If so How do you rate the unit in that regard.  Also i have an old skim ducer for for an eagle fish mark believe it is a 200 khz.  Anybody know if it will be usable with the x67 in the summer?  Alright guys help a brother out

Are you serious, two and a half feet of water?   At that depth you could stare the fish into submission and they'll jump out of the hole.   Honestly I wouldn't bother turning mine on under 15 feet, we can see the bottom of the lake in that depth.

i have used mine in 18 inches when its dirty mud water off metro beach (lsc Mi.) works fine . You just drop the sensitivity and scroll speed down a bit . Its really unnecessary ,but I get sick of staring down the hole.
We have had days when the jumbos are chasing minnows down the shoreline pre-spawn in February and would leave for a half hour and come back . The fish alarm is nice . It tells you when to put down the pop and pay attention. On another bay that is 2-3 foot , the musky spook the perch for a while , then they sneak back in We spear them because they will not bite. Same deal with the alarm.
When the game is over Both the king and pawn both go back in the same box.

Exactly not everybody fishes crystal clear water.  Thanks for the helpful reply.

Just playing devils advocate, but at 18 inches to 2.5 feet of water, the transducer is picking up a cone of what, about an inch of bottom?  I fail to see the need.

actually with a 20 deg cone in 2.5 ft of water you are seeing around 1.5 ft I believe.  Better than not seeing anything.........  Anyways I know it helps me catch fish and wasn't really the point of my OP anyways.  thanks for playing......

Oh  it appears my 200khz ducer will work on the unit as reeds sells it and has both the x67 and eagle fishmarks listed as usable.  will verify with lowrance tomorrow.  If it is correct then the x67 just got a bit closer to being caught!

I bought my X67c at Scheels last year. They had them on sale for 199. At the time i was trying to decide between that and a Showdown Troller.

I felt after the first day that I had made the right decision and I also can tell you fishing it at lower depths like 10 and under works just great, especially in the prairie potholes around here that are not very clear. So yes, if you fish shallow water they work just fine. The one thing I will say is that IMHO they are great if you prefer the graph mode like I do. If you plan on using the flasher mode all of the time then you may want to get a true flasher.

This season I decided to get another flasher so that my 11 year old son could fish along with me but not in the same hole so we went to the St Paul Ice show and he picked out a dual beam Showdown as the second flasher. I have tried it but keep going back to the X67. As far as fish caught they both do the job and we are basically even the few times we have been out. He is happy with the vertical flasher and I am happy with the graph. It's nice to have options, just choose what works better for you.

The new ice pack looks sweet

The ice pack is the only thing that I didn't like about it.  On the advice of filetandrelease, I drilled the grimbal bracket into the base and got rid of the adjustable system so that the case could protect the finder the way it is suppose to.  Other than that I am absolutely impressed by how the X67C performs.
