Those pesky pickerel
« on: Feb 12, 2012, 10:42 AM »
Has anyone figured out a way of cutting down on the number of pickerel you catch when you're on l lake trying to catch bass or trout. ???

I usually fish 8 to 12 feet of water with "heavy medium" shiners. I've tried moving deeper, but that usually results in no flags at all.

Am I the only ice guy with this problem??

Any help here would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

for trout, try shallower water like 1-2 feet deep.

You'll only get magnum pickerel if you do get them at all.  Also good for giant bass.  Not so good for trout.  You could use powerbait for trout, and or set the minnows right under the ice, that'll cut down on the pics

Put the shiner 3ft under the ice regardless of death, then you will get trout.

so if the ice is only 1 inch thick we should disregard the possibility of death and continue to fish and put the shiner three feet below? ;D
Fishing is a sport in which thinking is involved it is the covenant between nature and man, mother and son. Through fishing only can we recreate the link that has been tarnished throughout the existence of the modern era of mankind. Fishing is the answer yet people ignore it and consider it a "stupid" thing to do. What do these people do instead? They stare in front of color changing boxes. Is that life? My life is fishin
