Looking for a place
« on: Nov 29, 2011, 07:17 PM »
Hey all, Indiana guy here. I have a buddy at work that wants to take his kids ice fishing this year. He is looking for a place that rents cabins or ice houses. He lives in NWI and would like to stay within a 3 or 4 hour drive. I have only fished once thru the ice in Michigan so I am no help.
Does anyone have any suggesstions? thanks

I think they still do on Lake Cadillac.  Atleast they use to not that long ago. Honestly your friend would be better off renting a cabin and buying a portable shanty for the price you will pay for renting one for a few days.  I have an Ice Cube for example that would be plenty of room for adult and 2 kids or use it as a base camp warming station if not too bad or windy. they can be had for under $150, are lightweight and portable.

They still rent them on Houghton Lake.  I believe you can get the overnight ones as well.  Start with Lyman's and go from there.  Probally a 4 hour drive from NW In.  Good luck.

Oh man you gotta look into the rentals up in canada. CABINS on the ice with wood stoves, recliners, the works. even come with bunkbeds so you can make a solid weekend out of it. only downside is its like 4 grand to rent for a weekend.

I just got a cabin on Lake of the Woods in Minnesota for 4 nights 3 days fishing for my girlfriend and I....$800!! 1st week of March...CAN'T WAIT!!

It's a fine line between fishing & sitting on the ice like an idiot

Ricks Bait Shack of Whitmore Lake rents out shanties. Whitmore Lake is a lot closer to you, being just 15 minutes N of Ann Arbor Mi. # (734) 449-8210
