Catfish
« on: Feb 15, 2012, 02:16 PM »
I know its alittle early-BUT I start catfishing on the rivers when they open up.  Biggest I caught-only been 10 lb channel.  We have any Flatheads around here.

oh hell yea, i'm game. no flatheads in these parts that I'm aware of, Missouri River has some, more in the southern stretches I think. Channels are all i've caught. I was hoping to do a fundraiser catfish tournament this summer up by Belle, haven't got all the details ironed out yet though.

My  $.02

closest good flat head I've had is up at Lewis and Clark.  I'm no pro...not even varsity...but I've caught some tanks near the rocks on the damn face.  Guy I was with said there were flatheads (again - not sure.  He seemed to know more about them.  I was semi-annoyed by them).  Some were huge...took forever to get them in.  I thought they were snags.  We were pulling plugs for walleyes and caught one every pass dam near.  Not sure what guy would do if he targeted them.  This was during that silly-high water this summer... late.  I'm sure it isn't traditional spot for them, but they are in there if those were, truly, flatheads.

I'd prob be able to help out some on the tourney.  If I travel too far to fish-I'm going on the Missouri to catch Walleye.  I always do good on channels on the Belle north of New Underwood on the 2 bridges.  River changed alot the last 2 years.  I had to walk pretty far to find the good spots.  Always have one or two days where I just slaughter them.   I haven't tried it closer to Belle Fourche.

Lewis and Clark is the lake above Gavins Point Dam by Yankton, S.D.
If you guys want big Yellowcat come down and see me, I have a resaurant right on the Missouri River and we fish em all the time. We get some monsters around here, 50-60 pounders. Catch em on live bait , bullheads and gills mostly. Check first to see how bad the Corps has the river screwed up first though, with the high water we had last year I only got out once late in the year.
